U.S. authorities have discovered a drug tunnel as long as six football fields, which began in Tijuana, Mexico, and developed near San Diego in the United States. Length 513 meters.
The tunnel was described as a secret passage from Tijuana to San Diego, and had air conditioning systems, reinforced walls and electricity. When the tunnel was exposed, about 18 kilograms of cocaine, 60 kilograms of METH and 1.5 kilograms of heroin were discovered in it. Six people were arrested on suspicion of distributing cocaine, all residents of Southern California.
U.S. police experts told CBS NEWS that the tunnel discovered is the longest, deepest and most equipped of dozens of drug smuggling tunnels discovered between the two countries in the past 20 years.
It has also been reported that in the past there have been many smuggles of marijuana, but in recent years the drugs smuggled into U.S. territory are far more dangerous than marijuana.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration said that shipments of drugs smuggled from Mexico to the states of California and Arizona usually originated in the large Mexican drug cartel Sinaloa.
