Sepp Blatter, who served as FIFA president for 17 years between 1998 and 2015, is remembered mainly for the various corruption scandals that even led to his suspension from the International Football Association. “For two decades, senior members of the Haitian Football Association have built a network of sexual exploitation that included rape of girls and boys, abortions, extortion and death threats,” Molina said, adding that according to Haitian court reports, at least one victim ended his life.
Representatives from Concakaf (Central American Football Association) and FIFA came to the country to visit the FIFA Goal Center, where many children from the age of 14 who dreamed of becoming professional footballers stayed, trained and studied. “They would come to Haiti and offer them an actress, a judge or a worker for sex. Some of the most senior, including Sepp Blatter, took advantage of that. It was hell on earth.” On one occasion, Dado instructed one of the union employees to visit Blatter in his hotel room and ordered her to have sex with him.
“You come to Haiti and get a woman from the association in the hotel room,” said former local team captain and players’ union president Arenso Lawrence, “Football? Their only way out of extreme poverty. Dado could get what he wanted.”
From anyone who wanted to travel with the team and get a visa to the United States, Dado would demand something in return. Usually it was sex. A player who previously lived in the same FIFA center in Haiti said: “It was a nightmare, the parents had to help us but we could not tell them the truth. We were their hope for a better future. “
One of the victims said: “How could FIFA not see what was happening? These are two decades of abuse. “FIFA closed its eyes because they got girls when they came here, it was systematic.”
Witnesses say that before a delegation came to visit, Dado would gather everyone and instruct them what to say if asked the same questions: “We had to say Dado takes good care of us, serves as a father figure for him and we need more money to improve the center. We would eat once a day. “It was a bad meal. When delegations arrived, they made sure we ate well and everything was clean, especially when Blatter arrived.”
