Boxer Fights for Life After Collapsing During Training Session
A routine boxing workout turned into a harrowing medical emergency for Brody Fulks, who collapsed after a training session at Thrive Tribe boxing in Lexington, Kentucky. His wife, Hannah Fulks, recounts a swift descent from feeling unwell to losing consciousness, ultimately revealing a severe brain bleed.
The incident unfolded during a training trip intended to allow Brody to work with friends at Thrive Tribe. According to Hannah, Brody initially reported feeling “bad” and “not good” before becoming sick and subsequently losing consciousness. “He just said that he felt bad, he didn’t feel good, and then he got sick. And then he lost consciousness,” she shared.
Paramedics arrived within approximately 10 minutes and transported Brody to UK Hospital, a mere 7 minutes away. Upon arrival, doctors discovered a significant brain bleed and immediately intubated him. He remains unconscious as of this reporting.
Despite the grim circumstances, Hannah reports observing small signs of progress, clinging to the memory of the man she’s known since elementary school. “Always funny. That’s the first word I would use to describe him as funny, always putting a smile on, very caring. He loves his family and his friends,” she said, painting a picture of a devoted husband and father.
Those who know Brody describe him as a relentless fighter, a quality demonstrated throughout his life. Hannah emphasized the difficulty Brody faces, stating, “For him, it’s harder for him than it is for any of us really, but he’s never backed down from a challenge. He’s a fighter and he cares so deeply about his family. Like I know he would do absolutely anything to get back to us.”
Brody’s strength extends beyond his personal life, having served in the West Virginia National Guard. This dedication has now inspired an outpouring of support, with over 100 visitors flocking to his bedside. Remarkably, even past boxing opponents have come to offer their support, a testament to Brody’s character. “He’s actually had past opponents that have come to visit him and we just say that speaks to the type of person that he is that people that he’s fought in the past made it a point to come,” Hannah noted.
Amidst the uncertainty, Hannah finds solace in her faith. “I just feel like God is in control. He showed us multiple signs that like we should not worry, that he has a plan and I’m just trusting that,” she stated, expressing a steadfast belief in a positive outcome.
