Implumper: Hollywood & “The Paper” Star on Home Turf

Sabrina Impacciatore: From Italian Stages to Global Stardom with “The Office” Spin-off

A celebrated Italian actress, Sabrina Impacciatore, is experiencing a remarkable career resurgence, captivating audiences with her starring role in the upcoming spin-off of “The Office,” already garnering praise from critics in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The 54-year-old actress, known for her nuanced performances, embodies a compelling blend of comedy and vulnerability that resonated with viewers during her acclaimed appearance in the second season of “The White Lotus.” After decades of dedicated work within the Italian entertainment industry, Impacciatore has found international recognition, a journey she describes as profoundly meaningful. “It’s like every sacrifice, every choice, every tear would come back multiplied,” she shared, adding, “It is not a feeling linked to success, but to the meaning of life. I’m still in disbelief.”

Impacciatore’s current success is particularly poignant given past discouragement. Years ago, she was cautioned by a prominent figure in Italian entertainment that opportunities for actresses of her age were dwindling. However, fate intervened, and her role in “The White Lotus” not only earned her an Emmy nomination but also paved the way for her current project. “I must say that it is something new for me: in the United States I was welcomed as an added value,” she explained. She further elaborated on the creative freedom she experiences on “The Paper,” the “Office” spin-off, stating, “In ‘The Paper’ I improvise a lot: they believe in me, they give me space, they listen to all my ideas with enthusiasm and gratitude. I feel absolute happiness.”

The series, set in the offices of the Toledo Truth Teller newspaper, is set to premiere on January 26th on Sky and Now. An English colleague, exiting a room where Impacciatore was preparing for an interview, enthusiastically proclaimed, “She’s wonderful!”

Impacciatore’s comedic timing, a hallmark of her performances, is a natural gift. “Either you have it or you don’t. It’s something you’re born with,” she asserted, attributing the talent to her late father. It took time for her to fully grasp the significance of this quality, initially recognized by her first acting teacher and later by Gianni Boncompagni, who “reassured me, he told me, you are full of comedic talent. I saw that everyone was laughing and this heartened me, but I wondered what it meant. I understood it many years later…”

Now a sought-after performer, Impacciatore is in demand from leading US talk shows and directors, including Julian Schnabel. The producer of “The Paper” expressed their gratitude for her contributions to the role in a personal letter. She has also been invited to participate in the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in February.

Despite the whirlwind of newfound fame – the red carpets, the Hollywood parties – Impacciatore maintains a sense of grounded disbelief. “I go to these incredible places… and I think: this is my place. I’ve always been here. I belonged to this world and, whatever happens in the future, all this has already happened and no one can take it away from me.”
