A Dakota County, Minnesota, youth is seeking a mentor through Kids ‘n Kinship, one of dozens of children hoping to forge a supportive relationship with an adult. The organization currently supports over 39 young people in need of guidance and friendship, highlighting a critical need for mentorship opportunities in the region.
Kids ‘n Kinship provides friendships and positive role models to children and youth ages 5-16 who are in need of an additional supportive relationship with an adult. The program aims to connect young individuals with caring adults who can offer encouragement, stability, and a positive influence.
Meet Matt: A Budding Pilot with Big Dreams
One child currently waiting for a mentor is 9-year-old Matt. He possesses a vibrant personality and a wide range of interests, making him an ideal candidate for a fulfilling mentorship experience. Matt’s passions include planes and ships, and he’s described as a “whiz” at the popular online games Minecraft and Roblox. He also enjoys playing soccer, basketball, and baseball.
According to those close to him, Matt is a highly imaginative and energetic child. He lives with his grandparents, who describe him as active, talkative, and very energetic. He self-identifies as emotional, creative, and goofy. A key aspect of a successful mentorship for Matt would be a mentor who can help him navigate his emotions and develop coping mechanisms. “A mentor who can role model or coach ways for him to stay calm or work through situations when he gets upset is a bonus,” the organization noted.
Aspirations of Flight and Adventure
Matt harbors ambitious dreams for his future. He aspires to become a pilot, engineer, or architect, demonstrating a clear interest in STEM fields. If granted three wishes, he would choose to become a pilot, captain a ship, and travel to Dubai.
His grandparents are hoping a mentor can offer him a safe and supportive connection that he really needs in his life at his age. They emphasize the importance of finding a mentor who can share in his interests and provide a consistent, positive presence. Matt is seeking an individual or couple mentor with whom he can simply have fun and share common hobbies.
