Maryland Women’s Lacrosse begins 2026 Season Preparations with key Returners and Transfers

The University of Maryland women’s lacrosse team commenced training on Monday, January 12, gearing up for the 2026 season with a blend of seasoned veterans and promising new talent. The Terrapins will face a challenging early schedule, beginning with a road contest against Syracuse on February 6.

Maryland will kick off its 2026 campaign with a rematch against Syracuse, a team that defeated them in a top-10 showdown last season in College Park. Following the road trip, the terps will host virginia on february 14 in their first home game of the year.This contest holds added importance as it will be a continuation of the annual One Love game, founded in 2010 to honor the memory of former Virginia lacrosse player Yeardley Love.

The terrapins will rely heavily on a core group of All-American returners, including kori Edmondson, Neve O’Ferrall, Kayla Gilmore, JJ Suriano, and Kennedy Major. Edmondson, coming off a stellar junior season, was recognized as the 2025 Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and earned a spot among the top 25 finalists for the prestigious Tewaaraton Award.
Strategic Transfers Bolster Roster
Maryland has strategically added three key transfers to enhance its roster. Keeley Block, a Maryland native, joins the program after a successful four-year stint at Penn, where she earned 2025 Second team All-Ivy and IWLCA All-Region honors, scoring 42 goals in 19 games. Graduate transfer Kristen Shanahan arrives from Notre Dame, bringing leadership as a former team captain and a proven scoring touch, having recorded 27 goals and 41 points in 14 games in 2025. Rounding out the transfer class is senior goalkeeper Caitlin boden, who joins the terps from James Madison, where she ranked among the program’s all-time leaders in saves and save percentage.
Promising Freshmen Class Arrives
The Terps’ incoming recruiting class is also generating excitement, led by Ava Meyn and Sofia Herrera, both of whom were named to the Inside Lacrosse Freshman Power 100. Meyn secured the No. 7 ranking and was also recognized as the USA Lacrosse Northeast Player of the Year, while Herrera checked in at No. 37.A total of nine freshmen will be vying for playing time this season.
