The “All My Life” artist, whose real name is Durk Banks, was transferred back to the general population at the Los Angeles Metropolitan Detention Center on Friday, January 15, according to reports from XXL Magazine. He had been held in the special housing unit as August 2025.
Arrest and Initial charges
Durk was initially arrested in October 2024 in Broward county, Florida, on charges of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire and committing murder-for-hire. Authorities allege that Durk and five associates from his Only The Family collective orchestrated the 2022 murder of Lul Pab, the cousin of fellow rapper Quando Rondo, in Los Angeles.
Prosecutors contend the killing was an act of retaliation for the 2020 death of King von. Evidence suggests Durk allegedly ordered the hit, and investigators noted that the rapper had booked multiple flights out of the country prior to his arrest.
Solitary Confinement and Contraband
The 33-year-old was placed in solitary confinement after prison officials reportedly discovered he possessed an Apple Watch. This item is considered contraband,as it allegedly allowed Durk to maintain communication with individuals outside of the correctional facility, violating prison regulations.
Trial Date Delayed
Durk’s trial, originally scheduled to begin on January 20, has been postponed until May. The delay was granted by the presiding judge following a request from both the defence and prosecution, citing the complexity of the case.
“The case is so unusual and so complex, due to the nature of the prosecution and the number of defendants, that it is unreasonable to expect preparation for pre-trial proceedings or for the trial itself within the time limits established by the speedy Trial Act,” a court filing explained.
Denied Bail Requests
Despite filing multiple requests for bond, including a $4.5 million bail package, Durk has been repeatedly denied release. The court has deemed him a flight risk and a potential danger to the community, given the severity of the charges.
