The 2023 film, Super Mario Bros, the movie, broke records for animated features, and its post-credits scene hinted at a sequel. Fans eagerly awaited details, and on September 12, those details began to emerge with the official announcement of Super Mario Galaxy, the films, inspired by the beloved video game. Initial information focused on the release date and the addition of new voice talent.
Yoshi Takes Center Stage in Super Mario Galaxy
While the first trailer for Super Mario Galaxy excited fans, the iconic green dinosaur, Yoshi, was notably absent. However, a glimpse of a hatching dinosaur egg at the end of the first film signaled Yoshi’s eventual appearance in the next adventure.
That wait ended during the Nintendo Direct on January 25, 2026, with the release of a new, two-minute trailer centered on Yoshi. The trailer showcased the first meeting between Luigi, Mario, and the initially frightened dinosaur, who quickly seemed to bond with the two plumbers. While we hear Yoshi speak, the voice actor portraying the character remains unconfirmed.
More Familiar Faces Join the Adventure

Yoshi isn’t the only new character appearing in Super Mario Galaxy, the films. A brief battle scene revealed Birdo, another dinosaur, throwing eggs at Princess Peach.
And the surprises didn’t stop there. In the trailer’s final moments, as Yoshi and Toad face a massive T-Rex, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi are seen safely in Toad’s arms! Super Mario Galaxy promises to be another adventure packed with familiar faces and playful nods to the franchise. Fans can experience it all when the film officially releases on April 1st.
