Inventor Unites PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch in Single “Ningtendo PXBOX 5” Console
Table of Contents
A Chinese inventor has achieved what major gaming companies have not: a single console capable of playing games from the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2.
The ambitious project, dubbed the “Ningtendo PXBOX 5,” is a fully functional, handcrafted machine that has captured the imagination of the gaming world. The inventor, known as XNZ, demonstrated the console’s capabilities in a video, showcasing a seamless transition between all three gaming ecosystems.
A Triangle of Power
The heart of the Ningtendo PXBOX 5 is a striking triangular metal housing, drawing inspiration from the 2013 Apple Mac Pro. Each face of the triangle is dedicated to housing the internal components of one of the three consoles. A single 120-millimeter fan provides cooling for all systems, and a simple button press allows users to switch between PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Switch 2 modes. The system bypasses the need for multiple HDMI ports and complex cabling, utilizing an Arduino-powered, LED-illuminated control unit for smooth operation.
Ancient Craft Meets Modern Tech
XNZ employed a sophisticated manufacturing technique known as investment casting – or the lost wax process – to create the console’s unique case. This ancient Chinese craft involves forming a model from wax or plastic, encasing it in a heat-resistant material, and then melting out the model to create a precise mold for pouring liquid metal. This method resulted in a triangular cooling module that efficiently distributes heat and provides ample space for the three motherboards. Performance and Design
The Ningtendo PXBOX 5 is powered by a 250-watt GaN power supply, sequentially powering each console. While simultaneous play across all three systems isn’t possible, XNZ notes that the PlayStation 5 maintains a temperature of around 60 degrees Celsius under full load. The Switch 2 is integrated into a custom-designed 3D dock, allowing for easy insertion and removal. The result is not merely a technical achievement, but a striking piece of design.
The Steam Machine: A Potential Alternative?
While the Ningtendo PXBOX 5 remains a one-of-a-kind creation, the upcoming Steam Machine offers a potential, albeit different, path toward a unified gaming experience. The Steam platform boasts the vast majority of PC game releases, with increasing numbers of titles also appearing on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. However, Nintendo’s continued commitment to exclusive titles means the Steam Machine is unlikely to fully replace the Switch 2.
As one analyst noted, the likelihood of the “super console” becoming commercially available is slim, at least until one of the major gaming companies acquires the other two.
