Stanislas Guerini, loyal to Macron, enters the government

Stanislas Guerini, Minister of Transformation and the Public Service, May 20, 2022, in Paris.

His name was regularly cited among the potential “ministers” during Emmanuel Macron’s first five-year term. While he has just celebrated his 40th birthday, the general delegate of La République en Marche (LRM), Stanislas Guerini, has been appointed Minister of Transformation and the Public Service. He succeeds Amélie de Montchalin, who obtains the portfolio of ecological transition and territorial cohesion. “This ministry is the ministry of the daily life of the French people. I want to put issues of access and accessibility at the heart of my action” public services, he said during the handover ceremony on Friday, May 20.

A form of consecration for the one who, since 2018, has taken on the role of leader of the presidential party in the shadow of an Emmanuel Macron who has always eclipsed his majority. LRM’s latest electoral setbacks in the municipal elections of 2020 and then in the regional elections of June 2021 had contributed to weakening it internally, without it losing the confidence of the Head of State. “I know very few people who would have had as much resistance as him at very difficult times in the first five-year term”, estimates the number two of the presidential party, the LRM deputy of Essone Marie Guévenoux.

Former Strauss-Kahnien, graduate of the HEC business school in 2006, Stanislas Guerini did not fully engage in politics until the fall of 2015, when En Marche! is still a nascent project. With Sibeth Ndiaye, Ismaël Emelien and Sylvain Fort, the former “Mr. Communication” of the Head of State, he is developing the strategy that will lead Mr. Macron to the supreme office. Elected deputy for Paris in 2017, he cut his teeth on the Pacte law at the National Assembly.

” Workforce “

His trademark ? ” Kindness “, ” Workforce ” et ” Sense of hearing “. Qualities as much praised in Macronie as derided by its detractors. Even in the majority, some have criticized him for not making more use of the balance of power, in particular to bring out an ideological corpus specific to La République en Marche. “In this environment, it can sometimes happen that some people confuse kindness with weakness. Stanislas is extremely nice but certainly not weak”insists Mme Guevenoux.

He nevertheless gave in to demands for an overhaul of the presidential party, renamed Renaissance in early May. “He is someone who puts the collective before his individuality and in politics, it is rare enough to be sufficiently appreciated”believes Roland Lescure, spokesperson for LRM.
