Eduardo Bolsonaro Faces Potential Dismissal from Federal Police Position

The former Brazilian deputy’s extended absence from a clerical role at the Federal Police, following the revocation of his mandate, is under scrutiny, potentially leading to his dismissal.

A new administrative process initiated by the Federal Police Internal Affairs in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday, December 27, 2025, could result in Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, losing his position as a clerk within the corporation. A commission will investigate the unjustified absences of the former parliamentarian, which authorities may deem as abandonment of office.

This development follows a previous investigation, opened in September 2024, into actions taken by Bolsonaro while in the United States, specifically allegations of encouraging the imposition of tariffs against Brazil. However, officials indicate the current process is expected to be expedited.

The core of the matter centers on whether Eduardo Bolsonaro was absent from his duties intentionally and without justification for more than 30 consecutive days after losing his mandate as a federal deputy on December 18, 2025. Following the loss of his mandate, the Federal Police ordered Bolsonaro to return to his position, secured through a public examination. This return, however, did not materialize.

According to reports, Bolsonaro responded to the request by publishing a video on social media stating, “there is no way to return to Brazil now,” alluding to alleged political persecution targeting figures like Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Despite these claims, he affirmed his intention to contest the situation and retain his position.

The Revocation of Bolsonaro’s Mandate

The son of former President Bolsonaro had his mandate revoked due to a constitutional rule prohibiting deputies and senators from missing more than one-third of the year’s deliberative sessions. Bolsonaro had been residing in the United States, citing concerns over alleged “political and legal persecution” as the reason for his departure.

Responsibilities of a Federal Police Clerk

A clerk within the Federal Police plays a crucial role in the legal process, being responsible for formalizing investigative procedures and ensuring their legal validity. The position also entails managing records and warrants, organizing documentation, and maintaining control over evidence and bail.

The ongoing investigation will determine whether Bolsonaro’s actions constitute a deliberate and unjustified abandonment of his duties, potentially leading to the termination of his employment with the Federal Police. The outcome of this process will likely fuel further debate surrounding the intersection of political motivations and legal proceedings in Brazil.
