BANDUNG, February 1, 2026 – Search teams in West Bandung Regency have now identified 44 victims of the devastating Cisarua landslide, officials confirmed Sunday. the ongoing recovery effort is a race against time, complex by challenging terrain and the lingering threat of further landslides.
“A total of 44 body packs have been successfully identified by the DVI Team,” said Police Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, Head of public Relations for the West Java Regional Police, in a statement. “The identification process is ongoing,prioritizing accuracy and caution.”
Search Continues for Missing Individuals
Joint Search and rescue (SAR) teams are still actively searching for individuals who remain missing following the disaster.The scale of the landslide has made the search incredibly challenging, requiring a coordinated effort from the West Java Regional Police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), regional government, and volunteers.

The West Java Regional Police’s Samapta Directorate has deployed K9 units to aid in the search for remaining victims. Seventy personnel, including members of the K9 Unit, are directly involved in the disaster response.
Responding to reports from the public of a strong odor potentially indicating buried remains in the C3 area, K9 teams utilized Labrador and Belgian Malinois dogs to detect possible locations of victims trapped in the landslide debris.
“We have deployed the K9 unit to strengthen the search process, especially in areas that are difficult for personnel to reach. We respond quickly to every citizen report so that the search process can run optimally,” Rochmawan explained.
Authorities are also investigating the underlying causes of the landslide, with some experts pointing to social factors in addition to natural conditions.
Recent support for recovery efforts includes a 2 billion Indonesian Rupiah donation from Raffi ahmad for landslide recovery, and a visit to refugees by Ahmad, who delivered a message from the President.
