“The Voice of Hind Rajab” Film Screening to Highlight Tragedy in Gaza

A free community screening of the critically acclaimed film, “The Voice of Hind Rajab,” will be held this Saturday at 7 p.m. at the CALS Ron Robinson Theater, offering a poignant look at the devastating consequences of the conflict in Gaza. The 2025 film, a blend of documentary and dramatization, centers on the tragic story of Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian girl killed by the Israel Defense Forces in early 2024.

A Harrowing Loss Amidst Wider Conflict

The death of Hind Rajab stands as a particularly heartbreaking example within the larger context of the ongoing conflict. Since October 2023, thousands of young children have been killed by the state of Israel, but the circumstances surrounding Hind’s death have resonated deeply, described by many as “harrowing, heartbreaking and, perhaps most of all, damning.”

While Hind’s family sought safety from the escalating genocide in Gaza, their vehicle was struck by an Israeli tank, resulting in the deaths of most of her family members. Hind and one of her cousins survived the initial attack. In a desperate attempt to secure help, Hind’s cousin contacted the Palestine Red Crescent Society.

A Plea for Rescue and a Tragic Outcome

After informing Israeli authorities of their rescue mission, paramedics from the Red Crescent arrived to assist Hind and her cousin. Tragically, the paramedics were later reported missing. A recording of Hind’s voice, pleading with the words “I’m so scared, please come,” circulated widely, capturing the public’s attention as the world anxiously awaited news. The fears were tragically confirmed when reports emerged that the paramedic team, along with Hind and her cousin, had been killed by Israeli forces.

Directed by Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania, “The Voice of Hind Rajab” has garnered significant international acclaim, winning several awards at film festivals worldwide. The film has also received a nomination in the International Feature Film category for the 98th Academy Awards.
