Chennai: World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen defeated again by Indian teenager R Pragnnanandhaa (R Praggnanandhaa). The 16-year-old’s coup victory in the Chessable Masters Online Rapid Tournament. Pragyananda took advantage of Carlson’s error in the match which seemed to be heading for a draw. With this, Pragnananda maintained his chances of reaching the knockout round of the tournament.

This is the second time in three months that Carlson has been overthrown by Pragnananda. Earlier in February, the first win was at the Airtings Masters. Pragyananda, who had won three matches in a row and played Carlson with black calves, was subdued in 39 moves that day.

Pragnananda as hope

Pragnananda is the third Indian to beat Carlson. Earlier, Vishwanandan Anand and Harikrishnan had defeated Carlson. Ramesh Babu Pragnananda, the Grand Master of Indian Chess was born on August 10, 2005. Vaishali, the sister of Pragnananda, the son of Ramesh Babu and Nagalakshmi, a bank employee from Padi, Tamil Nadu, is also an International Master. Vaishali is now close to the title of Grand Master. RB Ramesh is the coach of Pragnananda and Vaishali.

Pragnananda had earlier stated that his dream is to get 3000 rating points. Pragnananda entered the world of chess through the academy of former world champion Viswanathan Anand.
