Boxing Spectacle Returns to Celle: Local Athletes Vie for District Titles

After a two-year hiatus, the district boxing championships are back in Celle, with seven local fighters from VfK Celle poised to compete for the title.

  • Seven boxers from VfK Celle will compete in the district championships on Saturday.
  • Two VfK Celle fighters, Wissam Kanita and Anton Schmunk, qualified for the championships after preliminary rounds in Wolfenbüttel.
  • The championships will be held at the new castle hall, starting at 3 p.m.
  • Coaches Jakob Deines and Manuel Truffel are confident in their athletes’ ability to secure titles.

The air in Celle will crackle with anticipation on Saturday as the district boxing championships return to the new castle hall. Fists will fly starting at 3 p.m., with seven athletes from VfK Celle stepping into the ring with a chance to claim a district title. Three additional fighters from the club are also scheduled to demonstrate their skills in exhibition bouts.

VfK Celle Fighters Earn Their Spots

The road to the championships wasn’t easy for all. Two VfK Celle fighters, Wissam Kanita and Anton Schmunk, had to earn their places in the competition during preliminary qualifying rounds held last weekend in Wolfenbüttel. Kanita secured his spot with a decisive win, while Schmunk advanced automatically after his scheduled opponent was unable to compete.

Local Contenders Aim for Victory

Aboud Barhum, Maxim Simon, and Dijar Alcu will also be fighting for final placement in Celle. Heavyweight Maxim Dratschjona has the opportunity to qualify for the next round with a strong performance in Celle. Meraldo Schmidt, a fan favorite known for bringing a lively crowd to previous events, aims to energize the hall and also advance to the next stage of the competition.

Coaches Express Confidence

The senior coaching team of Jakob Deines and Manuel Truffel have been rigorously preparing their athletes in recent weeks, focusing on showcasing the distinctive VfK Celle boxing style. “Our boys can beat anyone,” Deines and Truffel stated, along with Maik Schmitz. “We hope to avoid any illnesses or injuries, and we’re confident that several titles from this district championship will come to Celle.” Sebastian Föste will contribute his expertise as a judge and referee.

Milan Arsidinov was unable to find a suitable opponent for the championships. New additions to the VfK Celle boxing team, Mark Kirchner and Daniel Zerr, will not be competing in this event due to the requirement of having participated in at least three prior fights, but the club is working to schedule bouts for them in Celle outside of the championship tournament.

Admission to the championships begins at 2 p.m., with tickets priced at 6 euros for children under 14 and 12 euros for adults.
