Food crisis intensifies in Sri Lanka – Chandrika Daily

Colombo: Sri Lanka is on the verge of a major food crisis. The Prime Minister warned that the economically devastated country was facing a severe food shortage. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has suggested on Twitter that the reserves be restored. People are roaming the public streets when they do not have enough food. There is a shortage of fuel in the country. Severe food shortages are pushing many to the brink of death.

At the same time, the government has announced that it will procure the required fertilizer for the next planting season to increase the yield. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s decision to ban all fertilizers is said to have significantly reduced yields in the country. The Prime Minister also asked the people to co-operate in viewing the situation.

In the wake of the economic crisis, the political crisis and the anti-government riots in Sri Lanka were strong. Former Prime Minister Renil Wickremesinghe has been recalled but has managed to contain public anger. But the world is watching to see how it will recover from the severe financial crisis.
