Al-Marsad newspaper: The Public Health Authority “Weqaya” revealed the symptoms of monkeypox, which is newly endemic in some parts of West and Central Africa, explaining ways to prevent it.

“Weqaya” reported that monkeypox is a viral disease, and its symptoms include fever, headache, muscle and back pain, and swollen lymph glands, in addition to feeling tired and exhausted, and signs of a rash appearing after one to three days, starting from the face and then spreading to the rest of the body.

She added that the incubation period for the disease extends from 5 to 21 days, but it is mostly between 7 to 14 days.

As for the ways of transmission of monkeypox, it is transmitted when a person is exposed to contact with an animal or human infected with the virus or fluids and secretions, or by biting and scratching from the infected animal, in addition to the possibility of transmission from one person to another through respiratory droplets or physical contact with a person suffering Symptoms of or contact with contaminated surfaces or personal items, according to “Weqaya”.

Weqaya advised the need to be careful, to prevent disease, by staying away from crowded places as much as possible during travel, committing to wearing a mask and sterilizing hands on an ongoing basis, and consulting a doctor in the event of a skin rash after infection with a high temperature, especially if it was The person is returning from travel within the past 21 days for the onset of symptoms, and she also advised isolating the person in case he feels a high temperature or a rash appears, until the time of consulting a doctor.
