Sony WF-1000XM6 Earbuds: Leaks Reveal Next-Gen Noise Cancellation and Design
A new generation of Sony’s flagship earbuds is on the horizon, with leaks suggesting significant upgrades to noise cancellation, processing power, and design. Early reports indicate the WF-1000XM6 earbuds are arriving soon, following image leaks from online retailers.
According to spec leaks from tech scooper Car-onlywho, known for accurate industry information, the upcoming earbuds will boast substantial improvements over the 2023 WF-1000XM5 earbuds. Sony did not respond to a request for comment regarding these reports.
Enhanced Noise Cancellation Through Hardware Upgrades
The most notable upgrade appears to be an increase in microphones. While the WF-1000XM5 featured six microphones, the WF-1000XM6 will integrate eight, potentially leading to more effective active noise cancellation (ANC). This hardware enhancement is paired with a new QN3e processor, which is reportedly three times faster than its predecessor.
Beyond the processor and microphones, Sony is also overhauling internal components with a new speaker, a digital-to-analog converter, and an amplifier. These combined upgrades suggest a significant leap forward in audio fidelity and noise reduction capabilities.
Battery Life Remains Competitive
Despite the increased processing power and ANC capabilities, battery life is expected to remain consistent. Reports indicate the WF-1000XM6 will deliver eight hours of playback with ANC enabled, matching the performance of the WF-1000XM5. The charging case will extend battery life to a total of 16 hours.
A New Look for Sony’s Flagship Earbuds
Leaked images, apparently originating from Thai retailer Power Buy, reveal a redesigned exterior. The WF-1000XM6 earbuds will reportedly be available in matte black and white finishes, featuring a new “pill-shaped” design with larger eartips. It remains unclear whether this design change is purely for ergonomic comfort or if it will impact sound quality, specifically bass response. Further details will likely emerge upon Sony’s official announcement.
