Family’s Dream World Tour Turns into Nightmare in Tanzania

A family’s long-planned world tour took a terrifying turn last November when a seemingly routine taxi ride in Tanzania unfolded into a dangerous situation. What began as an “enchanted interlude” for Arnaud and Andréa, a couple from Gironde, France, quickly descended into a nightmare scenario while traveling with their two children, ages 7 and 9.

A Journey Years in the Making

After years of dreaming and meticulous preparation, Arnaud and Andréa embarked on their ambitious journey in the summer of 2025. Having resided in Canada since 2012, the family first traveled through France and across Europe before venturing to Egypt and Morocco. On October 30th, they arrived in Zanzibar, Tanzania, intending to spend five weeks exploring the region.

The Fateful Taxi Ride

On November 13th, the family decided to relocate to a different hotel. Utilizing an online reservation application, they secured a taxi for the journey. “We had good contact with a gentleman who said he was a driver, and we had exchanged a few messages in the previous days,” stated Arnaud. The vehicle arrived with the driver and another man already inside, a detail that initially did not raise any concerns.
