Tariff Negotiations Progressing

Details regarding the specific terms of the tariff agreement remain confidential for the time being. However, a senior official indicated that progress has been made, with rates being reduced “from 32 to 19.” Further specifics will be revealed following the completion of the agreement. “We have dropped from (rate) 32 to 19, then there are other things that we will also wait until everything is 100 percent complete,” the official stated.

Indonesia’s Role on the Board of Peace

President Subianto’s attendance at the Board of Peace meeting, established by US President Donald Trump, signals Indonesia’s proactive stance in global peace initiatives. According to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vahd Nabyl Achmad Mulachela, the government received an invitation to the inaugural meeting and views the President’s participation as a demonstration of Indonesia’s dedication to shaping the Board’s future direction.

Indonesia intends to leverage its position on the Board of Peace to advocate for several key objectives, including:

  • The protection of civilians in conflict zones.
  • The recovery and reconstruction of Gaza.
  • The pursuit of a just and sustainable peace for Palestine based on a two-state solution.

“Indonesia will use the Board of Peace to fight for the protection of civilians, encourage the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, and strive for a just and sustainable peace for Palestine based on a two-state solution,” Mulachela affirmed.

This engagement reflects Indonesia’s broader foreign policy goals of promoting stability and resolving conflicts through diplomatic channels. The upcoming trip to the US represents a significant opportunity for Indonesia to strengthen its bilateral relationship with the United States and contribute to global peace efforts.
