DEM Party, Erdoğan Affirm Commitment to “Peace and Democratic Society Process”
A renewed commitment to the “Peace and Democratic Society Process” was confirmed following a meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and a delegation from the DEM Party, officials announced on Thursday, February 12, 2026. The DEM Party delegation urged Turkish parliamentary bodies and ministries to accelerate efforts toward democratic reforms.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, involved discussions on regional developments and their impact on Türkiye’s democratization efforts. Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar, members of the DEM Party İmralı Delegation, released a joint statement detailing the outcome of the talks.
“We consulted with Mr. President Erdoğan on the developments in our region and the effects of these developments on Türkiye and the Peace and Democratic Society Process,” the statement read. “During the meeting, the common will to continue the process with determination was once again confirmed.”
The delegation emphasized the crucial role of state institutions in advancing the process, calling for a more proactive approach from the Turkish Grand National Assembly, relevant ministries, and public institutions. They specifically requested “concrete and reassuring steps” to further democratization.
A key focus of the call to action centers on the completion of a report prepared by the National Solidarity, Fraternity and Democracy Commission. The delegation stressed the importance of a “comprehensive approach” to finalizing the report and enacting a legal framework for democratization and freedoms “without delay and with the broadest consensus.”
Acknowledging the current volatility in global and regional politics, the DEM Party delegation expressed optimism that the meeting would contribute to peaceful coexistence within Türkiye and the broader region. They concluded their statement by extending gratitude to President Erdoğan for receiving them.
