New Drug TLC‑2716 Shows Promise in Lowering Triglycerides, Advances to Phase 2 Trials
A new inverse agonist, TLC‑2716, designed to modulate liver X receptor (LXR) activity, has demonstrated safety in a phase 1 clinical trial and significantly lowered triglyceride levels in healthy participants. For decades, reducing LDL cholesterol has been the primary focus in cardiovascular health. Triglycerides are created in the small intestine from dietary fatty acids and then circulate throughout the body packaged within structures called chylomicrons. The mechanism of action for TLC‑2716 is unique. Unlike drugs that aim to activate LXRs, this compound lowers their basal activity.
