Moorestown, NJ – The Rotary Club of Moorestown is gearing up for its annual comedy night on Thursday, March 19, at the Moorestown Community House, an event organizers say is about more than just laughter. The evening, which begins with doors and the bar opening at 6:30 p.m. And the show starting at 7:30 p.m., aims to foster a sense of community while raising funds for local initiatives. This year, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Moorestown Theater Company, continuing a tradition of supporting vital local organizations.
For Doug Sell, co-chair of the comedy night committee alongside Amy Webb, the event represents a valuable opportunity for connection. “It takes a fair amount of perform to pull the evening off, but it’s a good time had by all,” Sell said. The event will operate on a “bring your own food” basis, with beer and seltzers available for purchase from King’s Road Brewing Company.

A Night of Laughter with a Purpose
This year’s comedy lineup features headliner Taylor Mason, known for a unique blend of comedy, ventriloquism, and music. Joining Mason will be special guests Ashley Austin Morris, a comedian and actor who performs regularly at clubs and theaters, and Chris Coccia, whose act is described as a mix of hilarious material and spontaneous audience interaction. The diverse range of comedic styles promises an evening of entertainment for a broad audience.
Sell emphasized the importance of events like these, particularly in challenging times. “The fellowship among friends to relax and enjoy a bunch of good laughs is a special experience, particularly in this time in our history when there is so much that is highly serious,” he explained. The Rotary Club views the comedy night as a way to provide a much-needed respite and strengthen community bonds.
Supporting Local Arts and Community Initiatives
The Rotary Club of Moorestown has a long history of supporting local causes. Their fall show previously raised $10,000 for the Moorestown Community House. This year, the decision to support the Moorestown Theater Company reflects the club’s commitment to fostering arts and culture within the community. According to Sell, the theater company offers opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities, including those with developmental challenges, to collaborate on meaningful entertainment and develop a shared appreciation for teamwork.
“The Moorestown Theater Company provides an opportunity for young, older and developmentally challenged people to work together to produce meaningful entertainment and develop appreciation for working together towards a goal,” Sell added.
Rotary International: A Global Network of Service
The Moorestown club is part of Rotary International, a global network of service organizations dedicated to addressing challenges both locally and internationally. Rotary International’s mission is to provide service to others and promote global understanding, goodwill, and peace through its network of business, professional, and community leaders.
Sell explained that Rotary is fundamentally a service organization, with clubs around the world tailoring their efforts to meet the specific needs of their communities. “It’s a very large organization made up of a lot of very individual, local groups that have their own way of defining what service is, and doing a lot of good around the world,” he observed. Local clubs too have the opportunity to participate in global projects facilitated by Rotary International, partnering with clubs worldwide to fund initiatives across the globe.
The Rotary Club of Moorestown focuses its efforts on a wide range of service projects, including initiatives related to water and sanitation, basic education and literacy, food and clothing drives, and economic and community development. The organization supports charities that provide essential services to underserved populations.
