After it broke out around the world, the monkey pox disease also reached Israel when one verifier was known. The director general of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Nachman Ash, explains about the disease and says that there is a chance that the disease has already reached other people.
“This disease is usually mild,” Prof. Ash explained in an interview last night (Sunday) with News 12, noting what the symptoms are: “It causes discomfort, fever, rash. It does not usually reach severe conditions. In people with background diseases and with failure of Immune system – the disease can be severe, and in exceptional cases can also cause death. “
Prof. Ash added: “Usually we do not know about the patients around us, we should generally avoid close contacts. There may be other cases in Israel that we do not know about, and more patients will come from abroad.”
“The incubation period is long,” Prof. Ash explained, adding: “The disease can be transmitted a few days before the rash appears. In general, care must be taken during this period. The disease does not justify extensive vaccination.”
“There are situations where a decision is made to vaccinate caregivers or people who have been in contact – at their discretion. In monkey pox it is, as mentioned, not a serious disease, and I do not estimate that there will be a major outbreak,” he concluded.
