Samsung unveiled its latest innovations at Galaxy Unpacked this week, showcasing the Galaxy S26 series and the Galaxy Buds4. Tech reviewer Parker Burton, after getting hands-on with the new devices, shared his initial impressions with the Samsung Newsroom, highlighting improvements in charging, display technology, and overall user experience. The new lineup signals Samsung’s continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of smartphone and audio technology, particularly with the integration of AI features.
Burton, a long-time Samsung enthusiast, described the event as energetic and impressive, noting the excitement surrounding the new releases. He specifically praised the Galaxy S26 Ultra, calling it the “most well-rounded phone experience on the market” and a likely contender for his top smartphone of the year. The Galaxy S26 series, including the S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra, will be available starting March 11.
A Focus on Practical Improvements
While acknowledging the importance of flashy new features, Burton emphasized his excitement over the more practical updates in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Faster charging speeds, he noted, are a benefit users will appreciate daily. The device boasts Super Fast Charging 3.0 tech, capable of reaching 75% charge in just 30 minutes with 60W charging, alongside 25W wireless charging. He also highlighted Horizon Lock, a new feature designed to stabilize video footage even when the phone is in motion, as a valuable tool for both casual users and content creators.
“It might not be as flashy, but I’m actually really excited about the improved charging speeds,” Burton said. “It’s such a practical update and people will see the benefit every day.”
Privacy Display: A Game Changer?
Burton, who has previously expressed his dislike for traditional privacy screen protectors, was particularly impressed with the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s new Privacy Display feature. Traditional privacy protectors often compromise viewing angles on AMOLED displays. Samsung’s implementation allows users to selectively protect content on the screen while maintaining optimal viewing quality. The ability to control which content is obscured, rather than applying a blanket filter, was a key factor in changing his perspective.
“Yeah, I’ve been pretty vocal that I am not really a fan of traditional privacy screen protectors,” Burton explained. “Then I learned about the level of control you have…you can choose to have it protect specific content on your screen. After seeing that, I was completely on board.”
Samsung’s Continued Innovation
Burton believes the Galaxy S26 series demonstrates Samsung’s position at the forefront of smartphone technology. He highlighted the company’s consistent excellence in display technology, from visual quality to foldable screens, as a key differentiator. The Privacy Display, he argued, is a testament to Samsung’s willingness to explore new and innovative solutions. The S26 series features a 6.9-inch AMOLED QHD+ display with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz, down to 1Hz on the Ultra model.
“I consider there’s no question Samsung is at the forefront,” Burton stated. “They continue to build really solid devices that anyone should be comfortable buying.”
First Impressions of the Galaxy Buds4
Beyond the smartphones, Burton also shared his thoughts on the new Galaxy Buds4. He praised the new brushed metal design, describing it as distinctly “Galaxy.” The compact design and strong Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) were particularly appealing, especially for frequent travelers. He also noted the improved woofer, promising enhanced bass performance. Samsung emphasizes the seamless connectivity between the Galaxy Buds and other Samsung devices.
“I do a lot of traveling, so the compact design and strong ANC are huge,” Burton said. “The improvements to the woofer are a big upgrade, everybody loves bass.”
