Opportunity to cultivate more area due to early opening of Mettur Dam: OPS Welcome

by time news

Chennai: AIADMK coordinator O. Panneerselvam has issued a statement saying that Chief Minister MK Stalin will open the Cauvery delta for irrigation on May 24, 20 days before June 12 instead of June 12. This should ensure that all open water is used for irrigation without wasting it, although it will be an opportunity for farmers to cultivate more land and prepare for samba cultivation. Considering that water will be released from the Mettur Dam on June 12 this year, diversion works, dam construction and embankment strengthening work are being carried out on the Cauvery, Vennaru and Kallani canals in the delta districts accordingly. Under these circumstances, the water in the Mettur dam, which opens today, is likely to reach the fort on the 26th or 27th of this month.

This will affect the construction work being carried out on the Cauvery, Vennaru, Kallani canals and branch canals and water may be wasted. Therefore, I urge Chief Minister MK Stalin to ensure that all water released from Mettur is fully utilized for irrigation. Thus stated in it.
