Bergen, Norway – A search is underway for a 16-year-old boy who went missing from healthcare personnel in Sandviken, Bergen, on Thursday afternoon. The search continued through the night and into Friday, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.

Police initiated the search Thursday evening and have been working with volunteer organizations, including the Red Cross, Norwegian Rescue Dogs, and Norwegian People’s Aid, to locate the teenager. The boy, who resides at an institution, requires medication twice daily, raising concerns for his well-being, according to police.

The missing boy is described as approximately 175 to 180 centimeters tall, with a slim build and blond, curly hair. He was last seen wearing a black and white cap and a black bubble jacket. Police have been actively following up on leads, including reported sightings in the Loddefjord area and near the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) in Sandviken, according to operations leader Knut Dahl-Michelsen.

“Police have been searching for the missing person throughout the evening and night into Friday, together with volunteers, without finding him,” Dahl-Michelsen stated. The search has encompassed a wide area, including Bergen city center and surrounding districts, utilizing foot patrols, vehicles, and drone technology.

A command post has been established at Gjensidige-gården in Sandviken to coordinate the search efforts. Innsatsleder (incident commander) Rune Vedeler told local news outlet Bergens Avisen (BA) that they have received numerous tips but no confirmed sightings as of Friday morning. “We greatly appreciate people contacting us if they notice anything,” Vedeler said.

The boy is familiar with using public transportation, which could broaden the search area. Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen him to contact police at 02800. The Red Cross and Norwegian Rescue Dogs were called in to assist with the search around 10:30 PM on Thursday, according to NRK Vestland.

Extensive Search Efforts Underway

The search operation has involved a coordinated effort between law enforcement and volunteer organizations. Teams have been deployed on foot, in vehicles, and utilizing drone technology to cover as much ground as possible. The focus has been on areas where the boy may have been observed, as well as locations he is known to frequent.

Boy Requires Daily Medication

A key concern for authorities is the boy’s need for medication twice a day. His residence at an institution underscores the importance of consistent medical care, and the length of time he has been missing raises concerns about his access to necessary treatment. This detail is central to the urgency of the search.
