The first video footage from the security cameras of a nearby store from the moment the outer shell of the metropolitan building in the city of Abadan in southwestern Iran was published on social media this evening (Tuesday).

According to the latest reports in the country, as reported by the Iranian news agency Tasnim, so far 10 people have been killed and 33 injured. More than 35 people were rescued alive from the rubble and several vehicles were damaged.
Following the collapse of the metropolitan building, the president of Iran and his deputy, the Iranian interior minister, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards and other elements in the country stressed the provision of immediate assistance to the families of the victims and called for serious action by those responsible.
Said Jalal Malki, a spokesman for the Tehran Municipality Fire and Safety Services, announced that 50 professional firefighters and rescue workers had been sent to the incident along with 11 heavy and light vehicles, mainly related to waste removal. In addition, another 30 soldiers were sent to expedite the process of locating the trapped, rescuing them and clearing the rubble.
Mughataba Khaledi, a spokesman for the country’s emergency services, told the Tasnim news agency that “33 people injured in the incident have been evacuated to hospitals so far. According to our forecasts there are currently at least 50 people still trapped under the rubble and we are making great efforts to rescue them.”
Khaledi added that “due to the destruction of part of the metropolitan building and the weakness of its pillars, there is a possibility of the collapse of another part of this structure.” He called on people to leave the place due to the fear of collapse and asked that no one be present at the place except the rescue workers so that they can end the incident as quickly as possible.
