You do not want to miss this mesmerizing movie: “The Zodiac”

Japanese director Ryosuka Magucci’s new film distills his one-off talent and presents three small, short, delicate and touching stories, all of which took place “by chance”. Even if it’s not your style in general, this movie is totally worth you getting out of the comfort zone for it

There is no doubt that Ryosuke the Gucci has become one of the most interesting creators active today in the film industry, and rightly so. This is a great director, a writer who is approaching perfection, and a sensitive artist who thinks about his audience. “The Zodiac” hit the screens a few weeks ago, and should not be missed, especially if you liked his previous film, “Mr. Yosuke’s Leadership.”

His new film is more sensitive, more accessible, but still retains the clear language of the Magucci, the exemplary photography, the incredible sensitivity, the high aesthetics. As mentioned, the film presents viewers with three small, minimalist stories, about chance encounters that, in fact, happen to all of us.

One meeting takes place in a restaurant, the second on a bus, and the third at the train station, and they all examine in one way or another a relationship, a mental process. In the first story called “Magic – or something less promising”, the protagonist and her friend take a taxi, and when she gets off, the same friend asks the driver to go back to where they came from. In the second story, called “Open Door Wide,” a meeting takes place between a famous and successful writer and a married student who enters his office following the whim of her lover.

She reads him a short scene from his book, and this strange little situation affects both of them in a way they did not expect. The last third story the film presents to us takes place during a cycle meeting of Netsuku, and she just wants to get away from there, and so she finally does. When she arrives at the train station, she meets someone she knows from the past.

They talk, and want to continue, but she’s waiting for delivery, so she invites him home. As mentioned, the cinematic language of the Magucci is delicate, aesthetic, throughout the film you will find only a few characters, few locations, a lot of dialogues and a little camera movement.

The strength of the Japanese creator is without a shadow of a doubt, his great writing. He manages to create characters and dialogues that are so believable, so touching, clever and surprising, and perhaps above all, natural and human. In other words, this modern Japanese piece, you just do not want to miss.
