Citizens of Vadakadu fishing village today staged a sit-in on the Rameswaram-Dhanushkodi National Highway condemning the Chandra massacre.

Balu hails from Vadakadu fishing village near Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district. His wife Chandra (age 45). He has been in the business of collecting sponges in the North Sea.

Chandra went to pick up seaweed as usual yesterday morning. He would return home after work every day at 4 p.m. But he did not return home until late yesterday. The frightened husband and relatives searched the North Sea area.

Chandra was lying half-naked with her body burnt inside the bush.

Citizens of Vadakadu fishing village today staged a sit-in on the Rameswaram-Dhanushkodi National Highway condemning the Chandra massacre. More than 200 women, fishermen and villagers took part in it.

Revenue officials have sealed off the shrimp farm where the incident took place and taken action following a notice in the case of a fisherwoman who was gang-raped and burnt to death in Rameswaram.
