Columbus Blue Jackets fans have a reason to celebrate tonight. Werenski himself explained his approach to the pivotal shift: “Realized it was a 3-on-2, tried to get to the middle of the ice and drive both ‘D’ to me, and I had two options on both sides of me,” he said. “The easier play was to my forehand, so it’s a great play by ‘Ollie’ to finish it.”

Blue Jackets coach John Bowness didn’t shy away from acknowledging a gradual start. He described the first period as “probably one of the worst” his team has played since he took the helm on January 12th. Although, he emphasized the importance of having players like Werenski step up when the team is struggling.
“He’s able to do that when things aren’t going good, take control,” Bowness stated. “The whole team struggled in that first period, let’s not kid ourselves. So then when that happens, you necessitate your better players to take over and set the tone. You look at that huge goal ‘Ollie’ got us right off the bat, set up by ‘Z.’ You need your better players to set the tone and they did that.”
Flyers Reflect on Missed Execution
Philadelphia wasn’t without its chances. Sean Couturier, who scored the Flyers’ first goal, acknowledged that a lapse in execution during the second period proved costly. “I think we didn’t execute for about five minutes in there in the second (period) and it cost us the game,” Couturier said. “Other than that, I thought we played a good game.”
Jamie Drysdale’s goal, a testament to the Flyers’ offensive capabilities, wasn’t enough to overcome the Blue Jackets’ momentum. The Flyers’ inability to capitalize on opportunities and contain Werenski’s playmaking proved to be the difference.
