Muse has announced a 10-city North American tour kicking off July 2nd at Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and concluding August 31st at the iconic Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The tour supports the band’s forthcoming tenth studio album, The Wow! Signal, set for release on June 26th via Warner Records. This announcement follows a week after the album’s unveiling and promises a summer filled with the band’s signature blend of rock, electronica, and theatrical performance. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 10th, at 10 a.m. Local time, according to a press release on the band’s official website.
The album title, The Wow! Signal, is a direct reference to a strong narrowband radio signal detected in 1977 by the Big Ear radio telescope, now defunct. The signal, lasting 72 seconds, remains unexplained and is considered a potential candidate for an extraterrestrial communication. This fascination with the cosmos and the unknown is deeply woven into Muse’s artistic identity, previously explored in albums like Black Holes and Revelations and The 2nd Law. The lead single, “Be With You,” has already garnered significant attention, becoming the most-added track at U.S. Alternative radio stations this week and amassing over three million global streams, Billboard reports.
The music video for “Be With You,” directed by Nico Paolillo and starring Ella Balinska, visually embodies this cosmic theme. It leans into the album’s conceptual backbone—a blend of cosmic paranoia and sci-fi grandeur—a hallmark of Muse’s arena-filling spectacles. Paolillo’s previous work includes directing for artists like Florence + The Machine and London Grammar, demonstrating a consistent ability to create visually arresting and emotionally resonant music videos.
The Wow! Signal arrives as the follow-up to 2022’s Will of the People, which topped the charts in the United Kingdom and reached No. 15 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. Will of the People was a politically charged album, reflecting anxieties surrounding misinformation and authoritarianism. The Wow! Signal appears to be a shift in focus, turning its gaze outward, toward the vastness of the universe and the enduring questions of existence.
