Organized by the Home Builders Association of Great Falls, the show has grown significantly over the decades, becoming one of the largest annual gatherings in the area. This year’s event is particularly timely, following a period of strong winds that impacted many homes throughout the region. The show provides a direct link between homeowners and the professionals equipped to handle repairs, and renovations.
“It’s a one-stop shop,” says Katie Hanning, executive officer for the Home Builders Association of Great Falls. “We have plumbers, electricians, landscapers – we’ve got it all.” Hanning explained that attendees often arrive with specific projects in mind and leave with a list of contacts, price comparisons, and fresh inspiration. The ExpoPark is reportedly at full capacity, with every available space occupied by exhibitors.
But the show isn’t solely focused on immediate repairs. It also serves as a vital platform for promoting the skilled trades and fostering the next generation of construction professionals. The Home Builders Association uses revenue generated from the show to support trade education programs and shop classes in local schools, aiming to address a growing need for qualified workers in the industry. A Showcase of Local Businesses and Unique Offerings
Among the diverse vendors at this year’s show is Crystals & Sage Candle Co., a family- and veteran-owned business based in Great Falls. Located at booth 57, the company is showcasing its handcrafted candles, infused with crystals, made with soy wax, and featuring wood wicks. Co-owner Kristin McComb shared that the business began as a hobby, quickly gaining popularity through word-of-mouth.
“Our business started a couple of years ago as a side hobby,” McComb said. “And then as we were giving them as gifts, people were saying, ‘Hey, I love your candles. Can you craft us some?’ And before we knew it, it was growing and growing.”
Crystals & Sage Candle Co. Prioritizes clean and safe materials, using organic soy wax and fragrances, making their products appealing to families with children and pets. They are also using the show as an opportunity to give back to the community. The company is donating 10 percent of its sales from the event to the Montana Vet Program, an organization that provides therapeutic adventure trips for veterans.
“They accept veterans and the Montana backcountry through veteran-led adventure therapy sessions,” explained David McComb, co-owner. “They take them out on long hikes… and just reconnect with nature and themselves.” The McCombs have personal experience with the program and witnessed its positive impact firsthand, having raised $400 for the organization at last year’s show, enough to sponsor one veteran’s trip. The timing of the Great Falls Home & Garden Show is particularly relevant this year, following a series of strong windstorms that swept through parts of Montana in recent weeks. Hanning emphasized that the show provides a convenient way for homeowners to connect with professionals who can assess damage and provide repair estimates.
“The winds have been tough and a lot of people lost roofs, siding,” Hanning said. “And these are the people that are coming here to assist you out with all of that.”
Beyond repairs, the show also offers inspiration and resources for a wide range of spring projects, from landscaping and gardening to interior renovations and energy-efficient upgrades. Attendees can explore the latest trends in home design, compare products and services, and gather ideas to enhance their living spaces.
