Scientists have discovered huge sugar deposits in certain areas of the oceans around the world. The discovery was made by scientists at the Max Planck Institute of Marine Microbiology in Germany. This huge sugar deposit is located in a mound of soil under the sea grass meadows of Seagrass. Scientists estimate that there is about 1.3 million tons of sugar in the form of sucrose, which is equivalent to the total sugar content of 32 billion cola tins. The seabed is one of the most endangered ecosystems on earth. These are increasingly being destroyed. Scientists say about a third of the world’s former seagrass has been lost.
