A 10-storey building on Amir Kabir Street in the southwestern Iranian city of Abadan has collapsed. 19 people died in this accident. In addition, more than 80 people are trapped in the rubble.
Rescue operations are ongoing in the building. Firefighters are engaged in rescue operations with the help of sniffer dogs and helicopters. The rescued have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
It is feared that the death toll from the crash could rise further as more people are being treated for serious injuries.
The owner and contractor of the building have been arrested in connection with the accident. It has been reported that they are being investigated.
