Trichy: The Cauvery water released from the Mettur dam in Salem district reached the fort this morning. Following this the water is opened today in the fort for delta irrigated agriculture.

Due to heavy rains, the water level of the Mettur Dam rose sharply. As the water level of Mettur Dam reached 118 feet, water was released for delta irrigation. Chief Minister MK Stalin opened the water from the Mettur dam.

The water that opened in the Mettur dam reached the fort this morning. Following this, water is to be released from the fort today for the cultivation of curry in the Cauvery Delta districts. Ministers, MPs, District Collectors, MLAs and farmers are expected to attend the inauguration ceremony.

Canals have previously been dug in delta districts. Thus the water released from the fort is expected to reach the outlet area quickly without any hindrance.
