“A lot of people were messaging Aditya too, saying they wanted to be cast opposite Ranveer. I was getting messages as well,” Chhabra noted. He explained that the production needed a face that truly looked like she belonged to the setting of the story. “But I told Aditya very clearly that we needed a face that truly looked like she belonged to that place, without any old baggage.”
Chhabra argued that if an actress had already done multiple films with Singh, the specific chemistry and tension required for this role would be compromised. “So a latest face would work better as any actor who has done two films with Ranveer, that connection won’t be established because his character is going to Pakistan and meeting her.”
The road to Yalina: 1,300 auditions
Finding the right balance of freshness and acting pedigree led the team to a rigorous search. While Sara Arjun was not a stranger to the camera—having worked as a child actor—she had never stepped into a full-fledged adult lead role in a major Bollywood production. This made her an ideal candidate: experienced enough to handle the pressure, but fresh enough to surprise the public.
The scale of the search was immense, with the casting team vetting between 1,200 and 1,300 candidates before finalizing Arjun. Her arc is central to the emotional stakes of the two-part saga; she falls in love with and marries Singh’s character, only for the second installment, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, to explore the fracturing of their marriage as the truth of his secret identity comes to light.

The Dhurandhar franchise has evolved into a commercial behemoth, challenging some of the highest-grossing films in Indian cinema history. According to recent reports, the first film collected ₹1,300 crore worldwide, while the sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, has already surpassed ₹1,500 crore globally.
The sequel’s trajectory has been particularly aggressive, opening with a massive ₹145 crore and securing ₹959 crore net in India alone.
