The rapper known as Offset is in stable condition after being shot Monday evening in Hollywood, Florida. The incident occurred near the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino following a physical altercation, according to a spokesperson for the artist.

“We can confirm Offset was shot and is currently at the hospital receiving medical care,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “He is stable and being closely monitored.”

The Seminole Police Department reported that officers responded to the valet area of the hotel and casino shortly after 7 p.m. On Monday. One individual was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening. That individual remained hospitalized as of Tuesday morning.

Police Investigation and Detentions

Authorities have detained two individuals in connection with the shooting. Police indicated that the event began as a fight near the hotel’s valet services before escalating into violence. The scene was secured Monday night, and officials confirmed that normal operations at the Seminole Hard Rock have continued.

One of the detained individuals, 24-year-old Tione Jayden Merritt, has been charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Merritt was booked into the Broward County Jail on Monday night. As of Tuesday morning, police had not filed charges against the second person detained, and an ongoing investigation is seeking to identify additional people who may have been involved in the altercation.

A Career Defined by Collective Success and Loss

Offset, born Kiari Cephus, first rose to international prominence as a member of the Atlanta rap trio Migos. Founded in 2008, the group became architects of the modern “trap” sound, blending rapid-fire triplets with heavy bass. Alongside Quavo and Takeoff, Offset helped the group achieve mainstream stardom, most notably with the 2016 smash hit “Bad and Boujee.”

The bond between the members was deeply personal; the trio grew up together in Atlanta, with Takeoff being Quavo’s nephew and Offset serving as a close family friend. However, that bond was strained by internal conflicts, leading to the group’s eventual split in 2022.

The tragedy of the group’s history was deepened in November 2022, when Takeoff, born Kirshnik Khari Ball, was fatally shot outside a bowling alley in Houston at the age of 28. The loss sent shockwaves through the hip-hop community. In May 2023, a grand jury indicted Patrick Xavier Clark for the murder of Takeoff. Clark has pleaded not guilty, and the case is currently awaiting trial.

Solo Evolution and Personal Transitions

Following the dissolution of Migos, Offset shifted his focus toward a solo career, attempting to carve out an identity separate from the group’s collective brand. In 2023, he released the album “Set It Off,” featuring collaborations with high-profile artists including Future, Travis Scott, Don Toliver, and Cardi B.

His most recent creative effort, an album titled “Kiari,” was released in August 2024, signaling a continued push toward personal storytelling and musical evolution.

Offset’s professional transitions have mirrored a turbulent period in his personal life. He married hip-hop star Cardi B in 2017, and the couple shares three children. However, the pair split publicly in late 2023, and Cardi B filed for divorce in 2024.

The Seminole Police Department has not yet provided a timeline for when further charges may be filed or when additional suspects might be named. The next confirmed checkpoint in this case will be the progression of the investigation into the second detained individual and any potential upgrades to the charges facing Tione Jayden Merritt.
