Lucca Classica Music Festival 2022, the dates
After two summer editions, the Lucca Classical Music Festival returns to its spring location with nine intense days of music and culture, all to be experienced and shared. In fact, from 23 April to 1 May, the eighth edition of the event promoted by the Lucchese Music Association will be held with more than 50 events from morning to late evening. The event opens on Saturday 23 April at 9 pm in San Francesco with the inaugural concert featuring theorchestra and the choir of the ISSM “Boccherini” directed by GianPaolo Mazzoli e Sara Matteucci and soloists Silvia Chiesa, Valentina Coladonato, Maurizio Baglini and the narrator of Sandro Cappelletto. A tribute to Pier Paolo Pasolini with the song “Between the flesh and the sky” from Azio Corghi, the Symphonic Prelude SC 32 by Puccini and the Credo for piano, mixed choir and orchestra by Arvo Pärt. Those of Pärt are pages of extraordinary relevance, written in 1968 to express the sense of disintegration, crisis and rebirth of a people, the Estonian one, at the time subjected and tormented by the government of the Soviet Union.

In the program of the festival the presence of Mario Brunellowhich leads to Lucca the project dedicated to Bach entitled “Sonatas and matches: a biblical story?” (24, 25, 26 April, 9 pm, Auditorium del Suffragio). During the three concerts, the Venetian musician will perform some of the most moving pieces of the German composer on an instrument of very rare listening, presenting them in the context of a sort of “biblical story” that reveals the deep links of the Sonatas and Partitas with the liturgy and Christian theology. .
Among the protagonists of this edition there will be the winner of the Paganini Award 2021 Giuseppe Gibboniwhich on April 29, at 9 pm, in San Francesco will play with theBoccherini Orchestra. Symphony 2, Under the Trees’ Voices by Ezio Bosso, was also scheduled that evening, composed in honor of the “forest of violins” of the Val di Fiemme where the so-called “resonance firs” grow. It is there that luthiers from all over the world, starting with Stradivari, have for centuries selected the woods for the construction of the soundboards of their instruments. On the occasion of the International Jazz Day, he will be in Lucca Paolo Fresu (April 30, 9 pm in San Francesco) with the “Altissima Luce” project, an extraordinary musical work freely inspired by the Laudario di Cortona, the oldest example of composition in vulgar Italian music, which is proposed revised with great skill, holding a one foot in tradition and the other in contemporaneity.
In the festival there will also be space for poetry with Franco Arminio and for prose with Marco Brinzi and The art of fugue, a piece inspired by the figure of Glenn Gould (in collaboration with the Teatro del Giglio). After the great success of last year, another suggestive silent wifi concert at night, this time in the splendid garden of Palazzo Pfanner, with Andrea Vizzini at the piano (April 29, 11 pm).
Among the many events dedicated to Puccinithe one with the Scala Quartet and the pianist is not to be missed Simone Soldatiwhich also features the Gavotta and the Fuga prima in G major for string quartet by Giacomo Puccini (May 1st, at 5:30 pm at Suffragio). These two pieces will be proposed at Lucca Classica after the recent first revival in modern times at Teatro alla Scala. The collaborations with the Giacomo Puccini Study Center, the National Edition of Giacomo Puccini’s works and the Simonetta Puccini Foundation for Giacomo Puccini are fundamental for this event.
