Microsoft Word is preparing a dark theme for the web, which also applies to screen editing

by time news

Some Microsoft Word Internet users will start to see the dark mode of the online document editor. It has not yet been rolled out to users and requires a server-side update, as the company says it will begin testing Dark Mode with users in the coming weeks. Currently in internal testing, Dark Mode for Word Online changes the bright white background to black.

Office for Windows 11 received a darker theme earlier this year, and Outlook on the web supports darker mode, where web-based applications like Microsoft Word and Excel are major loopholes.

We don’t know when Excel will get dark mode, but Microsoft has confirmed that Night-Friend Mode for Word is coming soon, and that will apply to document view as well. Word web user interfaces are expected to get a live dark theme that is currently available in Word or “Office for Windows” for Windows.

Applies to Dark Mode Document Editor, right-click menu and other areas of web applications.

Except for the dark background, this update will change the colors used in the documents to a slightly darker version. For example, bright colors like red or yellow can be set to reduce word brightness and better match the editor’s dark mode.

It provides an option to disable Microsoft Dark Canvas (edit area) and stick to the lighter version.

According to a post on Microsoft’s roadmap page, Word’s Dark Mode is set to launch “soon,” and the ETA is currently unavailable.

New Features Coming in Office Apps

In addition to the Dark Mode for the web version of Word, Microsoft is also working on new features and improved designs for apps like OneNote.

Microsoft updates native Win32 OneNote app The company plans to integrate two OneNote apps in the coming months, with features of a retired UWP client. Tap on the classic ribbon menu with a new look that extends to the new look, title, and navigation panels.

All parts of OneNote are updated with rounded corners, and mecha usage can be seen all the time. Microsoft notes that the design update applies to page lists, section tabs, and drop-down lists for notebooks.

As mentioned, OneNote gets all the features out of its UWP number, including better ink or pen integration into Windows, new AI capabilities, ruler support, and more.
