An amazing discovery in the tomb city of ancient Egypt: Hundreds of coffins with preserved mummies and bronze statues of Egyptian gods have been discovered at the burial site of Skara, the largest amount unearthed in excavations in the area to date.

The Department of Antiquities has announced that the Egyptian Archaeological Expedition has operated a burial site for sacred animals in the archeological site of Skara, the burial city of Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt. The excavations have uncovered an impressive array of finds from the late period of ancient Egypt, around the year 500 BC.

The secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mustafa and Ziri, who headed the delegation, said they located 250 enclosed colored coffins made of wood and inside were mummies kept in good condition, in addition to amulets and wooden sculptures. Vaziri noted that the papyrus was transferred to the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square for testing and identification of the contents.

Another surprise was the discovery of 150 bronze statues of various sizes of gods from ancient Egypt, including Isis, Osiris, Anubis and Jaws, in addition to the headless statue of Amhotaf, the royal adviser who built the pyramid at Skara. Along with the sculptures was discovered an ancient musical instrument called the systrom and a collection of bronze instruments that were used for religious ceremonies.
