Malaysia bans poultry exports; Meat prices soar in Singapore

KUALA LUMPUR: Poultry prices in Singapore have risen sharply following the Malaysian government’s ban on poultry exports. Most of its products are imported from Malaysia.

In this situation, the price has risen sharply following the decline in Malaysian poultry production. Therefore, Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yacoub recently ordered a ban on poultry exports from June 1 until production and prices stabilize.

Chicken Rice is popular in all restaurants across the country. Also, people are consuming more chicken meat in their daily diet. This sudden announcement by Malaysia has caused tension among the people of Singapore. People are rushing to butcher shops to buy and stockpile chicken. As a result, the price of chicken is starting to rise. It is predicted that the price of processed chicken will rise by up to 30 per cent in the coming days.
