The daytime strike targeted the grounds of a privately operated military training facility situated about 20 to 30 kilometers from central Kyiv in the Bucha district. Acting regional military administration head Ruslan Oliinyk reported that emergency crews responded to widespread destruction at the scene, where 27 homes and 44 vehicles sustained damage alongside the casualties.
The Ukrainian Defense Industry Council confirmed that representatives from private defense manufacturers were present at the site when the missile hit. In response to the tragedy, the country’s prosecutor general, Ruslan Kravchenko, launched both a war crimes investigation and a separate criminal inquiry into possible negligence regarding the event’s organization.

Public outrage followed the attack, fueled by concerns that a high-profile public gathering of defense sector figures had been held and publicly advertised during wartime. Air force spokesman Yuri Ihnat told Ukrainian television that the barrage involved three ballistic missiles, of which air defense systems intercepted only one. Officials noted that daytime ballistic strikes remain irregular, marking a tactical shift by Russian forces.
Zelenskyy Seeks Faster Production as Patriot Talks Progress
The strike unfolded immediately following high-level diplomatic and industrial meetings in Kyiv aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with senior representatives from Raytheon, the U.S. manufacturer of the Patriot air defense systems that Ukraine relies on to intercept incoming ballistic threats.
The discussions followed a recent pledge from U.S. President Donald Trump granting Ukraine a license to produce Patriots.

Simultaneous Strikes Across Front Lines and Deep Inside Russia
The devastation in the Kyiv region formed part of a wider escalation across multiple fronts. In the eastern city of Sloviansk, two Russian glide bombs killed five people and injured nine others, prompting regional governor Vadym Filashkin to issue a renewed evacuation plea to remaining civilians near the front line.

A Ukrainian missile strike on a military plant in Russia’s Kirov region killed six people and wounded 26 others, according to the regional governor, Alexander Sokolov. Zelenskyy described the targeted factory as one of the most important military facilities supplying components for aircraft and missile equipment used against Ukraine.
Concurrently, Ukrainian drone forces targeted logistics hubs belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, across Saint Petersburg, the Leningrad region, and Simferopol in Crimea.
