The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, conducted between July 24-26 among 1,246 U.S. adults, reveals that just 33% of Americans support President Donald Trump’s war in Iran, while 62% disapprove—a sharp decline from 37% in mid-March. The conflict, launched without congressional approval, has been far less popular than other American conflicts in their early days, with support far below the 70% backing for the Iraq War in its early months and 90% for the Afghanistan War.
Polls Show Deepening Republican Concerns Over Iran War

Economic Fallout: Gas Prices and Voter Frustration
The war has driven gasoline prices above $4 a gallon nationwide, up from around $3 before the conflict began. This spike has intensified voter frustration, with 63% of Americans saying the war is going badly for the U.S.
Republican officials acknowledge the economic strain. White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales defended the war, stating, What matters most to the American people is having a Commander in Chief who takes bold action to keep them safe, which is exactly what President Trump is doing.
Trump’s Base Sours as War Drags On
MAGA voters, once a pillar of Trump’s support, are also showing signs of wear. A Politico poll found that just a little more than a third of self-identified MAGA voters now say the war is worth its economic costs, down from 50 percent in May. Nearly 1 in 5 MAGA voters believe that the U.S. should end its war in Iran, regardless of the costs. We’ve got more dead Americans and a politically impossible situation,
said one person close to the White House, reflecting internal frustration over the war’s trajectory.
Trump has dismissed concerns, vowing on Truth Social that Iran would many times over
for every American killed. Rhyan Anderson, an independent from Fairburn, Georgia, argued the focus should be on domestic issues: My biggest thing is just focus on the people who are actually in the country.
With an American death toll of 18 since the U.S.-Israeli campaign began on Feb. 28, the administration faces mounting pressure to clarify its strategy. As the midterm elections approach, the war’s economic and military costs continue to shape the political landscape, with no clear path to resolution in sight.
