Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen urged Mt Kenya residents and leaders to unite behind Deputy President Kithure Kindiki during a thanksgiving ceremony in Embu County. Murkomen described Kindiki as the region’s future leader and called for explicit public support from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Murkomen’s Call for Rigathi Gachagua’s Endorsement
A central point of Murkomen’s address was the role of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The Cabinet Secretary called on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to fully support Kindiki after his recent remarks referring to him as the son of the mountain.
Murkomen pushed for a more definitive and open endorsement to ensure regional unity and called on Gachagua to openly encourage the region to unite behind Kindiki.
“If you now acknowledge that he is your son, why can’t you go all the way and say that we should support him?”

Dismissing Internal Government Friction
Murkomen used the gathering to shut down speculation that Kindiki is struggling within the government. The Cabinet Secretary maintained that the Deputy President’s only concern would be a lack of support from his home region.
He argued that any perceived problem facing Kindiki is not internal to the government, but rather a matter of regional support. He stated plainly that there is no problem with Prof. Kindiki and that the only real risk to the Deputy President is a lack of backing from his home region. There is no problem with Prof. Kindiki. He will only have a problem if you do not support him,
Murkomen said.
Police Crackdown on “Goons” and Public Violence
He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining peace, public order and security across the country. He praised the National Police Service for their recent operations to disrupt criminal gangs, frequently referred to as goons.
“I commend the National Police Service. In all the meetings that have taken place over the last two weeks, there have been no incidents involving goons.”

The Cabinet Secretary issued a stern warning to politicians and individuals accused of financing violence or mobilising people carrying crude weapons to disrupt public gatherings. He clarified that the government will not accept the excuse of self-protection as a justification for carrying weapons in public spaces, stating that they will not allow crude weapons to be used to cause violence. We will not allow anyone to carry crude weapons in public and claim that they are doing so for self-protection while causing violence,
he said.

Joseph Mbugua (Roads). Regional legislators in attendance were: Senator Alexander Mundigi (Embu), MP Muchangi Karemba (Runyenjes), MP Eng. Nebart Muriuki (Mbeere South), and Woman Representative Pamela Njoki (Embu), alongside Members of County Assembly and other local leaders.
