by time news
Former India opener Virender Sehwag has revealed that he thought of retiring from ODI cricket in 2008 when MS Dhoni was the captain of the team, but it was Sachin Tendulkar who changed his mind.

Sehwag, considered one of the most dangerous batsmen in cricket, has been retired from international cricket for seven years. The retired cricketer continues to be a commentator as well as an active presence on social media. Sehwag continues to be a favorite among fans as he is capable of wrapping up any event with humor.

He has scored two triple centuries in Tests and two double centuries in ODIs for India. Sehwag says the 2008 tour of Australia was a series he wants to forget. In an interview with Cricketbus, Sehwag said that he was thinking of retiring after losing his place in the team due to poor performance in the ODI series against Australia.

Sehwag did not shine in the 2008 tri-series in Australia. Sehwag, the then Indian captain, was dropped for the remaining matches due to poor performance. Sehwag was upset that he did not get the chance. Sehwag said the incident prompted him to consider retiring from ODI cricket. Prior to that, he had scored 150 runs in Test cricket. But Sehwag’s scores were 6,33,11,14 in the first four matches of the tri-series. He was dropped from the playing XI and was ruled out of the ODIs after being ruled out of the Test series.

But Sehwag said it was Tendulkar who backed away from the decision. When his performance deteriorated, he decided to retire from ODIs and focus only on Tests. But Tendulkar changed my mind. Tendulkar advised him that this was a bad time in his life and that he should not make a decision immediately and should make a decision only after he has returned home and made a good decision. These words of his became an inspiration to me. Sehwag clarified.

Sehwag, who backed out of his retirement decision that day, has since made a strong comeback. He regained his place in the Indian team and was instrumental in helping India win the ODI World Cup in 2011 and later scored two double centuries in ODIs.
