Tyler Boebert, the 21-year-old son of U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, was arrested recently on five felony charges, including three counts related to the sexual exploitation of a child, according to court records and statements from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest followed an investigation by the sheriff’s office and a felony review conducted by the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Boebert, a resident of the town of New Castle, was booked into the Garfield County Jail and released on a $10,000 bond.
Details of the Exploitation Charges
According to an arrest affidavit, the charges stem from a 43-second video filmed in February 2024, in which Boebert, then 18, allegedly had sex with a 17-year-old girl he was dating. The affidavit notes the girl was weeks away from turning 18 at the time.
Investigators allege the video was later posted to an anonymous Instagram account alongside other videos depicting child sexual abuse material. A 50-page affidavit released Monday indicates that at least six other people, including at least four juveniles, may have committed crimes linked to the material on that account.
Boebert faces the following charges:
- Sexual exploitation of a child (induce/entice) — Class 3 felony
- Sexual exploitation of a child (possession with intent to deal in, sell, or distribute) — Class 3 felony
- Sexual exploitation of a child (video) — Class 4 felony
- Contributing to the delinquency of a minor (two counts) — Class 4 felonies
Legal Timeline and Proceedings
While some records indicate the arrest occurred on Thursday, Aug. 6, others state he was arrested on Sunday. The postindependent.com has scheduled a bond appearance for Boebert on Aug. 19.
Rep. Lauren Boebert issued a statement regarding the charges, saying, I love my son. We take these allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time.
History of Prior Legal Issues
Tyler Boebert has a history of legal encounters in Colorado. In 2024, he was arrested in Rifle on 22 felony and misdemeanor charges involving a series of vehicle break-ins and property thefts. He pleaded guilty to one count of attempted identity theft, a class 5 felony. For that case, he was sentenced to a two-year deferred sentence, 80 hours of community service, and a $1,200 probation fee. A sentencing hearing for that matter is scheduled for Sept. 10, while a hearing regarding the revocation of his probation is set for Nov. 16.
Additionally, Boebert has faced two separate misdemeanor child abuse charges without injury. These incidents occurred in February of this year and July 2025, both involving his young son wandering away from Rep. Boebert’s home while in Tyler’s care. In response to the July citation, Rep. Boebert described the event as a miscommunication on monitoring my young grandson
and stated that Child Protective Services met with the family to ensure a safe environment.
Other past incidents include:
- September 2022: A ticket for careless driving after allegedly flipping an SUV into a creek; the charge was later downgraded to a defective vehicle citation for headlights.
- January 2024: A 911 call in which Boebert claimed his father, Jayson Boebert, assaulted him with a rifle.
