Control Resonant Gameplay Trailer Reveals Dylan Faden and Melee Combat

Remedy Entertainment released a gameplay reveal trailer for Control Resonant, an action RPG launching in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The sequel replaces Jesse Faden with Dylan Faden, trading ranged shooting for a melee-focused combat style featuring a shapeshifting weapon called the Aberrant.

Manhattan’s Twisted Transformation and Gravity Anomalies

Remedy Entertainment has pulled back the curtain on its supernatural action RPG sequel, offering a firsthand look at the twisted landscape of Manhattan’s West Incursion Zone. The new footage shows a world reshaped by otherworldly forces actively breaking reality apart, featuring large, expansive zones packed with side activities, hidden encounters, and optional discoveries.

As the environment grows increasingly chaotic, the protagonist must navigate spaces that defy standard physics. Players traverse Gravity Anomalies where orientation and gravity shift entirely, opening up traversal and combat encounters.

Dylan Faden and the Aberrant Melee Combat System

The biggest departure in the upcoming sequel is the transition from Jesse Faden’s shapeshifting gun to an entirely new combat style centered on her brother, Dylan. Confined for years by the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), Dylan enters the fray at the peak of a supernatural crisis as the Hiss, the Mold, and other paranatural threats spill beyond containment.

Central to Dylan’s arsenal is the Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee weapon that transforms into multiple forms to give players a versatile toolkit. According to gameplay designer Sergey Mohov, the development team sought to create an experience spiritually similar to the original game while introducing a more aggressive, in-your-face combat loop.

“We actually have a pretty long and eclectic list of references, and they’re not all video games. If I had to name one game that this game [Resonant] is trying to be like, it would be the original Control. That’s our number one reference for everything.”

Mohov noted that while the team also drew inspiration from hack-and-slash titles like Capcom’s Devil May Cry 5 and PlatinumGames projects, the resulting combination yields an experience unlike anything currently on the market.

Boss Fights Against Corrupted Resonants

Among the major threats introduced in the gameplay footage are the Resonants—remnants of powerful individuals corrupted and twisted by the mysterious force tearing reality apart. A prime example shown in recent showcases is the Deserter, a towering, magma-spitting boss responsible for a factory on the verge of exploding. The encounter forces players to dodge streaming lava and red-hot pipes protruding from the creature’s body.

Defeating these massive adversaries serves a mechanical purpose beyond survival. Each victory over a Resonant unlocks brand-new combat abilities and expands Dylan’s supernatural arsenal, tying player progression directly to the game’s most challenging encounters.

Release Window, Platform Availability, and Campaign Length

Control Resonant is scheduled to launch in Techradar, for PlayStation 5, with releases also confirmed for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.

The main campaign is designed to last approximately 30 hours, with completionist playthroughs expected to extend further. While the narrative explores Dylan’s quest to find his missing sister and former FBC Director Jesse Faden, developers have confirmed that playing the original game is not required to understand the plot.
