Tyler Duckworth, a reality television personality known for his appearances on MTV’s The Challenge and The Real World: Key West, was found dead at age 44 in his Grand Forks, North Dakota, apartment. According to the Grand Forks Police Department, officers were dispatched to the residence at approximately 11:45 a.m. for a welfare check after a neighbor in a downstairs unit reported water leaking through their ceiling. A maintenance worker discovered Duckworth’s body in an overflowing bathtub.

Authorities have classified the death as unattended, noting that no witnesses were present at the time. While an autopsy is pending to determine the official cause of death, police stated there were no outward signs of trauma, such as gunshot or stab wounds, and currently, there is no indication of homicide or foul play. Investigators were unable to verify Duckworth’s medical history during their inquiry.
Career in Reality Television
Duckworth first gained national attention in 2006 as a cast member on The Real World: Key West. This appearance served as his entry into the MTV reality universe, leading to a long tenure as a competitor on The Challenge. Over the course of his career, he competed on four seasons of the flagship series between 2006 and 2011, securing victories on Cutthroat in 2010 and Rivals in 2011. He later returned to the franchise to participate in two seasons of The Challenge: All Stars in 2021 and 2022.
Outside of his television career, Duckworth’s mother, Joni Duckworth, noted that her son had found a passion for education, working as a world history teacher. Page Six shared that his students loved him, adding, He loved history and geography and as he had traveled the world over I am sure he brought many insights to his students.

News of Duckworth’s passing occurred less than two weeks after he attended a Challenge Mania fan event in Minneapolis. Duckworth, a Minnesota native, had shared photos from the gathering on social media, expressing gratitude for the fans who supported the franchise. In a post, he wrote: So proud to represent my hometown of Minneapolis along with these other challenge legends. The fans are what keep us coming out! Hearing your stories of courage, inspiration & joy that you’ve got being a fan of the franchise is humbling each and every time.


Following the announcement of his death, fellow reality stars shared tributes. Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio, who was a roommate with Duckworth on The Real World and a partner during their 2011 Rivals win, posted an emotional video montage set to the song “Pink Skies” by Zach Bryan. TMZ wrote, You were more than a friend. More than a roommate. You were the brother I never had.
He concluded his tribute with a reference to Psalm 147:3, which reads, He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Competitor Wes Bergmann also honored Duckworth on social media, describing him as a “remarkable man” and a “great challenger.” Reflecting on the loss, Bergmann wrote, He made fantastic television. He was a great challenger. He was a very good swimmer. And eater. This is a really tough loss. Call your friends people.
