Arjun Rampal Registers Goa Marriage With Gabriella Demetriades

Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal registered his marriage to longtime partner Gabriella Demetriades in Mapusa, North Goa, on Friday. The couple completed formalities at the Sub-Registrar’s office under the state’s Uniform Civil Code after securing special permission to waive the standard 15-day waiting period between signatures.

The ceremony took place in the presence of close friends at the Sub-Registrar’s office in Mapusa, North Goa, where the couple arrived dressed in casual attire around 4 pm. Sub-Registrar Suraj Vernekar confirmed to PTI that the marriage was registered under Goa’s Uniform Civil Code.

Because local regulations typically mandate a 15-day waiting period between a couple’s first and second signatures, the pair secured special permission from the Assistant Public Prosecutor of the local court to condone the delay. According to the official, the formal marriage certificate will be handed over to the couple after the 15-day window concludes.

Life Together Before the Legal Formalities

The couple has been together since 2018, following the actor’s separation from his former wife, Mehr Jesia. They currently reside in Succoro village near Panaji. Demetriades is a South African national, model, and fashion designer who balances her creative work with raising their two sons, Arik, born in 2019, and Arav, born in 2023.

Before their marriage registration in Goa, Arjun Rampal had confirmed his engagement to Demetriades during a conversation on Rhea Chakraborty’s podcast. In the clip, Demetriades spoke about love, saying, Love comes with conditions. If the person behaves in a certain way, they get my approval or love. But when you have a child, you can't do that, right? She added, It's not like I am going after him because he is really hot, or I hope he didn't say that about me. Rampal responded, I, after her because she was hot. Then I realised there's a little more to it than just the hotness. Later, Demetriades said, We are not married now, but who knows?, to which Rampal added, We are engaged, prompting a surprised reaction from Chakraborty.

Reflections on Partnership and Marriage

Prior to formalizing their union, Rampal spoke openly about why the two had not rushed into marriage despite raising two children together. In an appearance on Ranveer Allahbadia’s YouTube channel, the actor questioned the societal weight placed on official documentation.

“It’s not me, it’s not her. What is marriage? A piece of paper after all. I think we are already married and there is no doubt in my mind about that. But, sometimes what that piece of paper can also do is change you. Because it’s like you think it’s permanent, it’s a false notion in fact but you are just legally bound.”

He added, “It could change your attitude towards each other. I think that’s how we both feel. Whatever has happened between us was very organic. I don’t want to speak much about it because I don’t want to jinx it. I don’t think I need to justify this to anybody. For us, this is beautiful. You should keep experiencing it for as long as you can. In both our minds, we are married to each other. We are both pushing each other in the right direction and at the same time, we are boyfriend-girlfriend.” However, Arjun Rampal had clarified that he was not against the institution of marriage. On the work front, Rampal last appeared in the Honey Trehan-directed biographical drama Satluj, starring Diljit Dosanjh.

Blending Families and Modern Co-Parenting

Demetriades has frequently spoken about building a healthy rapport with Rampal’s daughters from his previous marriage, Mahikaa and Myra. Arjun Rampal married model Mehr Jesia in 1998, and the couple had two daughters, 24-year-old Mahikaa and 21-year-old Myra. However, after being married for two decades, they decided to go their separate ways in 2018, while their divorce was finalised in 2019.

“They (Mahika and Myra) have been amazing through everything. We never had to tell them, ‘Oh, you have to respect Gabriela’. They have a relationship with me. If they like me as a friend, that is great. We were very clear that there’s no pressure on them, and let them settle into a nice rhythm. They are fun, lovely girls, and I think I am Gen-Z, so I am in with the lingo and understanding.”
